Brewster High School Class of 1976 50th Reunion
Someone under 40 would not believe that 50 years ago....
- You were able to drink when you turned 18 in NY. Folks from CT would come to Brewster because they had to be 21 in CT
- Hitchhiking was a valid and common means of transportation
- People go to dressed up to fly
- Nine on nine sandlot baseball games at the Little League field with NO parent involvement
- You had to physically walk into a bank to get money by using a check
- Traveler checks were used for vacations
- A drivers licenses were paper, no photo, and were easy to erase the birthday
- Gas stations did not offer self-service, but the windshields were washed
- Cars had ashtrays and not cup holders
- You had to insert a key into a car to start it and to open its doors
- On most cars you had to roll down the windows and push a knob to lock the door
- In grade school girls could not wear pants to school
- People collected green stamps and pasted them into a book so they could buy something new for the home
- People used an aluminum foil type visor to reflect the sun’s rays on their face to get a tan! And they would slather baby oil all over to get faster tan
- Christmas club accounts
- Playing the car game “Padiddle” where you ouched the inside roof of your car before anyone else when you saw another car with just one headlight
